Movie title: The Dark Maiden / 暗黒女子 (Ankoku Joshi)

Years / Genre / Language: 2017 / Mystery / Japanese

One day, Itsumi Shiraishi dies at Seibo Maria Girls High School. She falls off from the rooftop of a school building. Itsumi is the daughter of the administrator at the school and she was envied by all the other students there. Did Itsumi kill herself or was she killed accidentally or intentionally? At the time of her death, she held a lily of the valley flower in her hand. A rumor spreads that somebody in the literature club killed Itsumi. Itsumi was the president of the literature club. A friend of Itsumi, Sayuri, is now the president and she holds a regular club meeting, reading stories written by members. The theme of the meeting is “Itsumi Shiraishi’s death”.

4.4 / 5

"A well-written story indeed."

Well, I admit that during the first 30 minutes of the movie, I thought that this movie was all cliche, japanese high school girls with their cute voices and giggly happy shoujo vibes, caring senpais look after their kouhais(juniors), elite high school with Western culture references, awkward laughs like "ehehehehehe~" , 'senpai-noticed-me-and-I'm-very-happy' moment and so on.

And I admit every girl's story in this movie are off sometimes because it contradicts with another girl's story to the point that I don't know which one to believe.

If you are somewhat cringed after watching half of this movie, my advice is DON'T SKIP THIS MOVIE YET. Watch it till the end. So you know who's the real bad person. There's a good reason why I didn't mention "good" person lol.

Well, this story goes from "innocent" to very dark as you reached the end.

And Sayuri is cute eventhough the way she talks is a lil bit creepy.

I did expect who's the real culprit tho, but the plot twist. There are so many plot twist. And I warned you, the ending is very disturbing. Like, yucks.

Oh well. Girls can be very dark. And scary.

best wishes,
